The audit thresholds of the Auditors Activities Act, the records the company keeps, and what we prepare before the sworn auditor starts — not an audit.

In short

A larger Estonian company must have its annual accounts audited by a sworn auditor. The audit goes faster and costs the company less of its own time when the ledgers are reconciled and the schedules the auditor asks for are ready before the auditor starts. The article is general information, not legal or accounting advice.

A larger Estonian company must have its annual accounts audited by a sworn auditor. The audit goes faster and costs the company less of its own time when the ledgers are reconciled and the schedules the auditor asks for are ready before the auditor starts. This article explains when the audit is compulsory, what the company must keep, and what our preparation service does — which is preparation, not an audit and not an audit service.

The article is general information, not legal or accounting advice. Whether a company must be audited follows from its own figures for the financial year.

When the audit is compulsory

  • Two of three. An audit is compulsory when at least two of these indicators of the financial year are exceeded: sales revenue or income 5,000,000 euros, total assets 2,500,000 euros, an average of 50 employees (Auditors Activities Act § 91(1)).
  • One of three. It is also compulsory when one indicator exceeds 15,000,000 euros of sales revenue or income, 7,500,000 euros of total assets or an average of 180 employees (§ 91(2)).

Our guide does my Estonian company need an audit? also covers the review of the annual accounts.

What the company must have ready

  • Every transaction recorded in journals and ledgers within a reasonable period, each entry supported by source documents (Accounting Act § 6(2) and (4)).
  • The documents preserved for seven years, including the ledgers, contracts and other documents needed to reconstruct the transactions during audits (Accounting Act § 12(1) and (2)).

What we prepare

The service Annual audit preparation for an Estonian company, from from €1,800, puts the ledgers and the reconciliations in order, prepares the schedules and documents the auditor asks for, and lists the open questions for the auditor — all from the company's existing documents. The starting price is for one financial year; more work is agreed in writing before it starts.

  • Not an audit. We do not audit, review or certify the report; the audit is carried out by the sworn auditor the company appoints, and the auditor's own fee is not included.
  • Not included: creating missing source documents — we never do.

Prices exclude VAT. All communication takes place by email.

Ready to start? The ledgers, reconciliations and the auditor's schedules from the company's records; not an audit. Order.
